Three routes
PGTA with QTS & PGCE (12 months)
Best for: graduates ready to progress into teaching. Primary, Secondary and SEND pathways available; can be taken part-time over 24 months. Outcome: QTS + PGCE + 60 Master's credits.
Level 5 Advanced Entry BA with QTS (24 months)
Best for: experienced school staff with a relevant Level 5 teaching assistant or school-support qualification, subject to prior-learning mapping. Primary, Secondary and SEND pathways are available. Outcome: BA degree + QTS.
Undergraduate BA with QTS (38 months)
Best for: school staff who do not already have a degree, remaining employed while working towards it. Outcome: BA degree + QTS.
What schools need to know
Participants must be employed and supported by a school.
Schools provide an appropriately qualified school mentor and the required time for training.
The teacher-training pathways are fully funded for eligible participants; schools continue to employ and pay the participant.
Primary, Secondary and SEND routes are available.
Entry points are January, April and September.
Selected Secondary salary grants of up to £29,000 may be available on the postgraduate route, subject to the applicable scheme and subject.
No degree?
There is still a route to QTS. The 38-month undergraduate pathway allows eligible school staff without a degree to work towards a BA and QTS while remaining employed. Staff with a relevant Level 5 qualification may be eligible for the faster 24-month advanced-entry route.
Secondary undergraduate subjects: Maths, English, Spanish and PE.
